My brother's sweet dog, Oscar, isn't doing too well.
He was kind of like my first kid, even though he wasn't my dog.
We've been thinking and talking about Oscar a lot.
Ruby specifically wanted to talk about him today.
---------------------------------------
Maia of course wanted to talk about princesses again and the whole conversation, quite frankly, was boring.
But, she's been talking about how the mean mother (in Rapunzel) died because she locked up Rapunzel in the tower.
And she pointed out that the witch in Snow White died because she tried to poison Snow White.
As she's noticed these things, I've tried to impress upon her that being mean doesn't actually help.
That it's better to be kind, to talk things out, to try and find a compromise.
So, if learning to communicate with compassion is the end result of all this princess nonsense, then I suppose I can put up with it for now.
I did remember to jot down a few of our cute conversations that happened this week.
Referencing Tangled, Maia says "I don't have a mean mother, I just have you."
Maia was spinning around and around on her bottom while I was doing some emails. She suddenly said, "Is the house going to break?!"
I asked, "Why do you ask that?"
Maia replied, "It's all wobbly!"
One morning we were practicing gymnastics in the basement and Maia came to the balance beam page.
She said, "I need a balance beam, what can I use?"
I said, "How about the pillows? We can line them up on the floor."
"No, I need something long and thin."
"How about the stools?"
"No, I need something long and thin and (I heard) sweeps all day."
"Oh, ok! How about the brooms?"
"NO, something long and thin and SLEEPS all day. You know, Daddy?"
Happy weekend everyone!
