Bits of our week

1. Today I used the last of the toilet paper and intentionally decided to let Aleks deal with it. Ironically, I ended up using the restroom before he did and had to change it after all. I believe that's what they call karma.

2. I'm giving a recital on Wednesday. This weekend I tried on my dress and realized that my shoulders are a nice light brown and my back was a blinding white. After some research (thanks Chelsea) I made an appointment and experienced my first spray tan today. I'm not yet sure what I think. The experience was a little awkward and things are a bit blotchy, but from what I was told, after my shower tomorrow the whole thing will even out. I'm adding this to the list of things I never thought I'd do, but have done in the name of singing.

3. Maia went to a birthday party this weekend. It's the second party she's been to in her short life and it was a doozy! It was a princess party and had a pink bouncy castle and lots and lots of candy and sweets. Now she wants one just like that on her birthday. I've got 6 months to convince her to have a quiet book/dinosaur/milk and cookie party. Wish me luck.

4. We bought Maia new sneakers. This kid is wearing size 11!!! They're a bit big, but still. She looks like a puppy, with these big feet that she's growing into.

5. Ruby was napping really well this week and then today she was not interested. After she finished kicking, she started running back and forth in her crib. I'm amazed she stayed in her room and bed.

6. The girls continue to be each other's best friends and worst enemies. We're still working on sharing. Aleks thinks Ruby is a pushover because she'll often give Maia whatever she wants, even if Ruby was playing with it first. Frankly, as long as no one is screaming, I don't really care. World class parenting, huh? However, dance parties are always a hit.

7. Happy Halloween everyone! Have a fun week!

Sisters

Today we had an impromptu photo shoot.

Ruby saying, "Cheese!"

My two girls are complete opposites.

Ruby is quiet and cautious, while Maia is outgoing and fearless.
Maia's tall for her age with pin straight hair, while Ruby is short and got Aleks' curls.

Despite differences, they sure do love each other.

Pump it Up!

So, spring break is long gone, but I have one more adventure to share with you.

On our last day in Phoenix, we decided to try out Pump it Up.

It's 2 big rooms with these kinds of toys in them.

My oldest little, who refuses to go down the slide at the playground, did this about 100 times.

And my littlest little wanted to do this the entire time.

The next morning when we left at 5:00 am to get to the airport, Maia said "I want to go back to the bouncy place" and "Kansas is not my favorite, Arizona is my favorite. I want to go back to Arizona."

I haven't told her yet, but there's a Pump it Up in Wichita.
We may be visiting it this summer.

Busy Week

I've been kind of quiet on the blog this week.

There's been a lot going on.

Aleks had his first day of school!

The girls and I have been exploring Wichita when it hasn't been too hot.

We found a great playground about 5 minutes away:

We found a place to go for breakfast:

We visited the zoo and saw this beautiful tiger:

Since it's been so hot, we've been inside a lot too.
Maia and Ruby are starting to play together more and more:

Maia discovered one of life's small joys (yes, she's wearing tap shoes):

My mom was an angel and came to babysit visit during this first week of school. We had a wonderful time and the girls were especially excited to see their grandma. In fact, Maia was so excited that she hasn't been sleeping during her nap. And Ruby has now made the transition to one nap.

I'm actually really glad Ruby's only taking one nap now. I finally feel like I have more freedom to get out of the house.

Maia, on the other hand...
1. I need a break from that kid
2. She's only 2

My plan is to give her quiet time every day and if she chooses to sleep, great! If not, then she can just read books and sing in her bed.

Which prompts me to post this:

She's got about 20 books in bed with her.
Every night she tells me she wants ALL of them in her bed.

This morning when we asked her how she slept, Maia answered "I slept so impressive."

That kid.

Maia meets Ruby

Here's a little video of Maia meeting Ruby for the first time in the hospital.
